2009 Workshops

The Artist's Crossing

1/12/09 – Mark Redanty Master Class
Mr. Redanty will discuss the agent/performer relationship, how to obtain an agent, what to do and what not to do at auditions, among many other topics.

4/6/09 – Martin Moran Master Class
The Comedy Song - “Be funny!” – A two-word command that strikes terror in my auditioning heart. How do we unlock what is particular, organic, to our own sense of humor and wed it to comic material?

5/2/09 – Kathy Morath & Chris Stephens Master Class
Unlocking Musical Theatre Interpretive Possibilities with Kathy Morath & Chris Stephens - Please bring any song (pop, standard, or contemporary) that you know but have studied very little or none at all. The song does not have to be gender, age, or character appropriate as long it speaks to you in a personal way: humorously or emotionally. Also, bring 3 to 5 lines of text from a poem, novel, film, commercial, OR write the lines yourself. Please do your best to have these lines memorized and make sure to bring a typed copy with you. This class will end with an exciting group performance!

 5/16/09 & 6/6/09 – Kathy Morath & Chris Stephens Master Class
Don't sweat it! Just know the notes and text for a 2 minute cut of a song of your choice (pop, standard, country, showtune or rock). Get out those cell phone timers, because your music MUST already be cut clearly to 2 minutes when you come to class.
The less show specific, the better the song will work in the context of the class. (ex. Streets of Dublin, The Wizard & I, and Rose's Turn are probably NOT the best choices for our exercises)

 6/9/09 & 6/16/09 – Judy Blazer & Chris Stephens Master Class
Two classes on Rehearsal Strategies for Coordinating Vocal Technique with Acting Choices. Bring any song you plan on using for auditions. Have two cuts:  2 minutes and 16 bar. Have a contrasting song as well (in case there is extra time).

7/12/09 – Kim Larkin Songwriting Master Class
This exciting workshop will include presentations on copy writing and other legal information regarding songwriting; publicity and landing gigs; recording and releasing your own CD, as well as, a panel discussion where you can ask questions.  Each participant will also have the opportunity to perform a short original song and get feedback from the guest artists, Badia Farha & Angela Ortiz.

8/27/09 – Jack Allison Master Class
Song Interpretation Master Class - Take your Musical Theatre career to the next level by strengthening your audition skills! Study lyrics as dramatic text-learn to take an emotional journey that will prove your acting skills to casting professionals. Develop and strengthen repertoire—both audition songs and monologues. Discover how to make an indelible impression from the moment you enter the room. Deliver more consistent, effective auditions.

 8/28/09 – 8/30/09 – College Prep Weekend Workshop
This weekend workshop will focus on the selection of appropriate songs and monologues for college auditions.  In addition to the selection of the material, Master Teachers Jack Allison and Diane Ciesla will workshop the material with the students so, it is audition ready!
